TAMPA, Florida (AOL) - For the first time in team history, the Tampa Cherokees are seeking a new owner/manager. Glenn Boone announced his retirement today. Sighting personal reasons, Boone tearfully announced he could no longer manager the Cherokees effective immediately. The announcement has postponed the Cherokees' season opening in Vermont against the Grizzlies. The reason for the sudden announcement is due to Mr. Boone's recent promotion at the bank. Glenn has accepted the position of Vice President of Finance at the bank's parent company. This position will supervise northwestern Ohio. Glenn and his family will be moving to Finlay. He is expected to leave in early May. With a pending move approximately six weeks away, Mr. Boone felt that he should turn over the Cherokees immediately. Before turning in his cards, he invited the released players back to camp. He wanted to give the new manager the opportunity to set the 35-man roster and start the season from the beginning. Glenn has piloted the Cherokees since the 1983 season. He currently holds the second longest tenure in ABL history. Greg is playing in his 20th season. Glenn finished his 18-year career with a 423-344 record and 4 League Champships. Glenn has also resigned as the League Commissioner. He has held the post since 1996.
