Deion Sanders and me

CINCINNATI,  Ohio -- Even Deion Sanders could not believe it.  Not his home run.  Not his 3-for-3 night after nearly four years out of baseball.

No, it was the cheers that stunned him.

"I've never gotten an ovation like that," Sanders said after the Cincinnati Reds' 7-6 win over Los Angeles.  "I was really touched.  Teary."

The cheers and the standing ovation came in the second inning, after Sanders' three-run homer.  The homer, a line drive over the right field wall, came on just the second pitch Sanders saw in the game.  He lined the first pitch he saw for a single in the first inning.

The crowd of 30,548, including ABL webmaster Jim Schultheiss, went nuts before the homer landed.  Fans stayed on their feet until Sanders came out for a curtain call.

"What a moment!," said Schultheiss.  "I didn't know what to expect from Deion tonight.  He hadn't played baseball for 4 years." he continued.   "Going 2-for-2 on two pitches, including a 3-run homer deserved the We are not worthy praise!"
