A softball game may be called due to the 10-run rule. In the ABL, the 1-run rule applies. The team that scores one more run
than its opponent, wins the game. Duh! Right! Obvious as
it may seem, it is the rule for the 2002 campaign.
In the first 57 games played this season, 26 have been
decided by just one run. That's almost one in every two games
is decided by a single digit.
The Devils and Grizzlies have benefited the most in
these narrow decisions. Each club is 7-1 in nail biters.
So far, the Rebels are on the short end of the stick with no wins in
five games.
The record for one-run games played was 59 (or one
third) in 1998. The league logged 49 one-run games in 2000 and
2001; and 46 in 1999.
