The J-rating which is assigned to a player is based upon the number of games played, which takes into account both rest and injuries. We are requiring players to rest based upon their J-rating, which is effectively recognizing their injuries. The injury chart which we currently use also takes into account a player’s J-rating. The injury chart is part of the basic APBA game under the assumption that there an no other required rest rules. I feel that our J-rating rest rule coupled with our current injury chart is excessive, especially when a player is injured late in the season after already sitting out games. I like keeping injuries as part of the game because it adds an element of unpredictability, but one black mark against APBA is that it seems to be the same players getting injured: - the runner on 1st in front of a player with a 41 (most common) - thirdbaseman on a steal of 3rd - catcher on a steal of home - shortstop and leftfielder Options to discuss: 1) Take the current injury chart and cut it in half (rounding down). 2) Players cannot be forced by injury to miss more games than their J-rating determines. ( ie. A J-2 must rest 4 games, and he has already rested 2 when he is injured for 5 games. The injury will be limited to only 2 games.) 3) Treat all injuries as J-0; roll to determine if he stays in the game. 4) Others? At this point, I’m leaning towards #1.
